Increasingly, printers are demanding PDFs instead of original files. Mimi Vitetta is THE prepress person at the Peachpit Press production department. Peachpit outputs entire books as PDFs, so she has become very familiar with the issues of making PDFs from different programs for conventional printing. She will walk everyone through an actual project to show how she uses Acrobat to create PDFs and sets them up correctly for the needs of different printing houses.

Mimi has made eBooks with Acrobat Professional, an entire process in its own right. She’s used PDF technology to create eBooks for Adobe to sell on LightningSource.com. Making eBooks can be an arduous task as not all software produces the right kind of PDF automatically. Mimi has created PDFs for a program that Amazon was using called “Look Inside this Book.” Amazon.com required encoding copyright information into the PDFs. She will demonstrate how to do this as well as use security so that PDFs can not be altered.

Mimi is also an artist and has become interested in digital photography. She will show some examples of her own work and some personal influences like Cindy Sherman, and capturing stills from classic movies. Recently , Mimi has discovered ways to use Acrobat PDFs with digital photography for large scale printing and more.
