Come learn from veteran 3D artists and teachers Larry Rosenthal and Jane Veeder about how 2D artists can make the move to 3D. Larry and Jane also will demo a hot new Web 3D program called AXEL that is available for both Mac and Windows.

Web 3D tools have been around for years, but they have failed to enjoy the popular success of 2D vector formats on the Web. VRML and other proprietary formats never seemed to fulfill the promise of 3D on the Web.

The related tools offered to most digital artists and designers never quite hit the mark. Axel3D, a new, inexpensive tool from Mindavenue may change all that. Mindavenue is offering competitive upgrades for under $200.

Don’t miss this event: two great raffles, demo software giveaways and find out what you need to know or wondered about in the 3D world.

Larry Rosenthal is well-versed on 3D tolls for the Web. He created and has run StarbaseC3, which delivered the first Web3D entertainment content to AOL in 1997.

The site offers stories, games and community activities using almost every different type of Web3D and rich media on the Web today.

Originally from New York, Larry founded the NYVRMLSIG in 1995, which he says was the first Web 3D-related special interest group in the nation.

More recently, he founded SFWEB3D, a group intended to provide a voice for designers and developers who want to work with 3D on the Web. The group plans to meet monthly to examine and demo Web 3D products and projects. For more info, contact Larry at: larryr@cube3.com.

Jane Veeder started her career in electronic media arts in 1976 as a video artist and began working with digital computers in 1978. A member of the pioneering Chicago computer graphics community in the early 1980s, she has produced internationally exhibited animated and interactive computer art works, designed user interfaces for graphics software development, and worked in creative management for interactive entertainment.

She has been active in SIGGRAPH since 1979 and chaired two panels on the videogame industry in 1995.

Since 1988, Jane has taught 3D computer animation, interactive multimedia, and now Web3D at San Francisco State University. In 1998 she joined the Department of Design and Industry’s new Visual Communication Emphasis where she coordinates the digital media curriculum. Over the last year, she designed and built the new 3SPACE Lab for computer animation, product design and Web3D.
