Photographers are more interested than ever in making movies, and consumer videographers are out there trying to take good stills with their camcorders. Derrick Story will show us how to create video from still photography and good stills from video cameras.

Before the digital revolution, photogrpaher’s were limited to slide shows and wall hangings to present their work. With the advent of digital photography, still photographers have many more options. With examples, Derrick will show us how to bring still pictures to life using simple zooming and panning techniques, then add music and voiceovers to create engaging scenes. These scenes can stand alone as short digital stories or be stitched together as part of a bigger movie project.

Many camcorders are now able to capture 2-megapixel images, and amateur videographers are trying their hand at digital photography. But what are the secrets to taking good photos with these devices? Derrick will show you a number of pro tips that will immediately improve you shots, whether taken with a camcorder or a pocket digital camera.

“I have heard Derrick speak on a number of digital topics. He is knowledgeable, creative and just off-the-wall enough to keep me wanting more information.” — Janet Zagoria, President of NBMA

Derrick Story is the managing editor for O’Reilly Network (www.oreillynet.com) and the Mac DevCenter (www.macdevcenter.com), which he created in December 2000 for O’Reilly   Associates. His focus is Mac OS X, digital media, and mobile computing.

Derrick’s professional experience includes more than 15 years as a photojournalist, former managing editor of Web Review, and a speaker for O’Reilly, CMP and IDG conferences. Derrick authored the “Digital Photography Pocket Guide” and the “Digital Video Pocket Guide” (O’Reilly), and coauthored “iPhoto 2: the Missing Manual” (O’Reilly/Pogue Press).
