Photoshop is an absolute essential tool for countless artists, Web designers, and photographers. So our September Big Event is a must-attend for all Photoshop devotees! Donald Laird, Santa Rosa Junior College (www.santarosa.edu) Instructor extraordinaire, will show us how Adobe has enhanced this already-invaluable tool in its Photoshop 7 version.
Some of the topics Mr. Laird will cover are:
  • Managing your files including photo files
  • Customizing your workspace
  • The new File Browser
  • The new Patch Tool
  • The new Healing Brush
  • Batch Color Correcting
  • The new Paint Brush tools
  • The improved interface and tool presets
  • and much more
Mr. Laird, a full-time instructor with a rigorous teaching style, has taught Photoshop since the mid-1990s. An expert on numerous programs, he also teaches on both Mac and Windows everything from beginning computer classes to Web Server Administration with UNIX, from ImageReady, Web Design and Adobe GoLive to office applications. One of the newer classes he teaches is “Photo Restoration and Retouching,” which he developed with another SJRC Photoshop Instructor, Barbara Heiman. Laird is also well-versed in digital photography technology and dabbles in immersive video (QuickTimeVR).

A native Californian, Mr. Laird has a B.S. in Computer Science and is an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop, beginning with Version 5.0. He began his career as a statistical analyst, did tech support for Fair Isaac in San Rafael (where he and a team watched over 350 computers on three continents), was a corporate trainer, and a webmaster before finding his niche as a teacher nine years ago. He also consults to small businesses on Web site development, custom application programming, database development, and training. The numerous personal and business Web sites he has created feature 100% accessibility: no plug-ins are required and there are very low browser requirements.

One of Laird’s personal Web sites maps out the 1,100 historical landmarks in California (www.calandmarks.com). He has visited and photographed 1,011 of them and plans to do them all! His landmark photographs have been widely published in magazines, books, and documentaries. Laird, his wife Cathy, and their 4 year old son Sutter are often seen tooling down the highways in their black and white, cow-spotted PT Cruiser on their way to another historic site. And yes, Laird has created a Web site for his fellow PT Cruiser-ites (www.winecountrycruisers.com).

Laird is also a volunteer with the Marin/Sonoma/Napa Outreach Committee for the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, which is working on a bid to bring the Summer Olympic games to San Francisco in 2012.

Donald loves teaching and is looking forward to doing this Photoshop presentation for us and answering your questions. So bring your sharpened pencils, lots of paper, and get ready to take copious notes!
