Wine-country locals Dori Smith and Tom Negrino,
co-authors of the best-selling JavaScript
for the World Wide Web, 4th edition: Visual QuickStart Guide, will tell us how to add
interest and interactivity to Web sites using JavaScript. Join us at the October 23 meeting of the Web
Developers SIG, to be held at Autodesk's corporate headquarters in San Rafael.
Both Smith and Negrino are long-time writers in the software field and frequent speakers at industry trade shows
and conferences. They'll cover not only the how, but the why and when of using JavaScript, as well as talk about how
this easy-to-learn programming language is being adopted as the scripting language for many other applications,
such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Acrobat.
Negrino's credentials include his latest books, Microsoft Office 2001 for Macs for Dummies, and
Quicken 2001 for Mac, Visual QuickStart Guide. (The JavaScript book was released this past April.)
He began his writing career in 1985 with MacGuide magazine, joining the Macworld ranks in 1987. He works as a consultant, too.
On Smith's list of credits are Java for the WWW: Visual QuickStart Guide and monthly columns for DevX and Macworld.com.
She's been on the technology bandwagon for over twenty years, both as a contributing writer to numerous computer
industry magazines and as a programmer. She is also Editor and ListMom for the Wise Women's Web organization, and
is a member of the Web Standards Project Steering Committee.
