Web sites often have no UI, or they have a UI unlike any their visitors have seen before, requiring a learning curve to navigate their sites. Learn how to take UI elements from traditional applications and recreate them using DHTML. Join Tom Negrino and Dori Smith, co-authors of the best-selling JavaScript for the World Wide Web, Visual QuickStart Guide, 5th Edition as they step you through the user interface minefields. They’ll discuss what does and doesn’t work, and how to take advantage of the latest browsers without losing functionality in older ones.

Janet Zagoria, NBMA President, adds:
“Tom Negrino and Dori Smith always deliver an evening packed with the latest up-to-date information. I have been using their Visual Quick Start Guide for JavaScript, Version 4 since it came out. It is so helpful to have a programming book which is easy for a designer to use. Dori describes herself as a lazy programmer, which she defines as someone who won’t write tons of code when a few lines will do. This approach is what makes the code in their book so elegant and easy to use.”

“I can't wait to get my hands on their new version 5 book.”

We will be providing a chance to make that come true. Tom and Dori will provide two copies of their new book, JavaScript for the World Wide Web, Visual QuickStart Guide, 5th Edition, which we will raffle off at the event.

Tom Negrino is a book author and a Contributing Editor for Macworld magazine. His latest books are Macromedia Contribute 2 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide, and Keynote for Mac OS X: Visual QuickStart Guide. He is also the author of the award-winning Microsoft Office v. X Inside Out. Visit him on the Web at www.negrino.com.

Dori Smith is co-author of JavaScript for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, 5th Edition, author of Java 2 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, (both from Peachpit Press) and a contributor to numerous online and print computer industry magazines. A frequent speaker at industry conferences, she is on the Steering Committee for the Web Standards Project, as well as Publisher and ListMom for the Wise-Women's Web organization.
