Building Rich Internet Applications Using Macromedia Tools
Who: Steve Cherneff of Macromedia When: Thursday, March 27, 2003 Time: 6:30 PM, networking, 7:00-9:00 PM, program Where: Marin Community Foundation Hangar #5 directions Cost: Free to NBMA members; $10 for non-members; $5 for students with a valid ID Info Contact: Marc Tanenbaum, Web SIG Leader. Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) may well be the next step forward in the development of productivity tools. With increases in connection speeds and processing power, it is becoming increasingly possible to access applications over the Internet, instead of housing applications on the users computer. This offers the prospect of applying the accessibility and extensibility of the Internet while harnessing the processing power of the local computer. Those who favor this application model propose that RIAs combine the functionality of desktop software applications with the broad reach and low-cost deployment of web applications. Join us as Steve Cherneff, Senior Technical Evangelist at Macromedia, answers questions about RIAs: what are they? why are they important? how are they built? Steve will demonstrate the integration of Flash MX, Flash Remoting, Flash Communication Server and ColdFusion MX to illustrate how Macromedias backend technologies can work with Flash MX to build true application functionality accessible over the Web. Steve Cherneff has been a Macromedia employee for almost nine years and in that time he has worked with many of the worlds top developers to create compelling multimedia content and Rich Internet Applications. In his first role in 1993, as Manager of Developer Relations he helped Macromedia Director developers create award winning CD-ROM content. In 1995, as a Technical Evangelist, he helped to launch and evangelize the first Netscape plug-in called Shockwave. In 1998, Mr. Cherneff went to Asia for two years to help Singapores National Computer Board create a technology development program which helped to jump start Singapores Internet development community. Since 1999, Mr. Cherneff has been an evangelist for Macromedias application development technologies including Macromedia Flash and Macromedia ColdFusion. Prior to his tenure at Macromedia, Mr. Cherneff was an Executive Producer at Amazing Media in San Anselmo, an award winning multimedia development studio. Steves presentation has been made possible with the assistance of Roundpeg, a Macromedia Authorized Training Center. Roundpeg offers training in the full line of Macromedia products through their centers in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
