Web Bloopers: Avoiding Common Design Mistakes

Jeff Johnsons new book: Web Bloopers: 60 Common Web Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them (Morgan Kaufmann) explains how to avoid common Web design errors, and is illustrated with examples from actual websites. Jeff asserts that the Web does not exhibit commercial product quality, largely due to poor usability. He will describe some bloopers in each of several categories, and explain how to avoid them. The talk will be illustrated with many examples of bloopers in commercially-available websites. Jeff Johnson is president and principal consultant at UI Wizards, Inc., a product usability consulting firm. He has worked in the field of Human-Computer Interaction since 1978--as software designer and implementer, usability tester, manager, researcher at several computer and telecommunications companies, and consultant. In the course of his career, he has written many articles, co-written several books, and given numerous presentations on a variety of topics in Human-Computer Interaction. This month, Morgan Kaufmann publishes the sequel to his popular GUI Bloopers. The new book, Web Bloopers: 60 Common Web Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them, is devoted exclusively to design on the Web.
