Michael Wanger is in the news again, this time for being named one of the Top
100 Producers in the U.S. by the magazine AV Video Multimedia Producer. We
couldnt agree more. Of course, wevre biased, since Michael is a long-time
NBMA member (he joined in 1992). He served on NBMAs board of directors for two
years, produced and co-produced our Best of the North Bay New Media
Competition and Exposition for three years, and continues as an active volunteer. We know
from experience that Michael brings world class professionalism to everything
he does.
For more information about Michael, check out
his Web site, www.vidkid.com.

Former NBMA board member, database development wizard, and all-around good guy
Brian Cunningham has moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Like Sharon Rockey, who has
become NBMAs Portland correspondent, we hope Brian will report back on life
and technology in the midwest. Is the grass greener on the other side of
Californias borders? It might be greener in bioinformatics, which is the
field where Brian is directing his talents now.
Joe Sinclair, founder of NBMAs Internet SIG (way back in 1994), contributing
editor to this newsletter, and prolific author of Internet and other
computer-related books, reports that hes not dead yet. Joe celebrated being
sixty-one in 2001 by summitting White Mountain (14,249 ft. and third highest in
CA), Mt. Whitney (14,495 ft. and highest in the lower 48 states), Mt. Muir (14,015 ft.
CA), Mt. Elbert (14,433 ft. CO), and Mt. Lassen (10,457 ft. CA). We dont see much of Joe these days because, besides climbing mountains and writing books,
hes on the board of the MIT Academy Charter Middle School and a devoted father.

Speaking of milestones, NBMA will celebrate its tenth anniversary this
year. As the Russians say, We will endure. The association has survived the cycles of
industry hype, shakeouts and consolidations, as well as the peaks and valleys
of volunteerism endemic to non-profit groups. Today, NBMA serves 1600
subscribers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Our Web site
averages 70,000 hits per month from visitors in the U.S. and overseas not
bad for a small regional professional association. The traffic on our Web site
is a good reason to make sure your business is listed on the Member Links
page. Add or update your link by sending an email to
.
Carol Clark, NBMAs outgoing president and elections chairperson, reminds us
that January 11 is the deadline for returning election ballots for NBMAs 2002
board of directors. Carol is stepping down to devote more time to her growing
Web design business but will be an advisor to the next board.

NBMA is looking for a new Internet SIG leader (or co-leaders). Joe Zizzi has
filled the role (and many others) for over two years and would like to find a
replacement. SIG leaders plan meeting topics, contact potential speakers, and
manage other meeting details. NBMAs SIG Coordinator, Mike Campos, board
members, and other volunteers provide backup support. Contact Joe at
for more information or talk to him at one of NBMAs meetings.
